The Men’s Shed is a national program supporting the health and wellbeing of the male community through approximately 1,000 sheds around Australia.
The Strathmore Men's Shed (SMS) was founded with the support of the Moonee Valley City Council (MVCC) and the Rotary Clubs of Essendon, North Essendon and Strathmore.
MVCC provided the land; building infrastructure and shed fit-out. They also continue to provide ongoing support through maintenance of the shed and amenities, whilst the Rotary Clubs support us through funding of daily programs.
The Strathmore Men’s Shed was first opened in June 2015 with a base program running every second Saturday and a membership of 12. It has grown to more than 60 members and our programs run Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8.30AM to 12.30PM.
These programs cover a wide range of activities from community-based projects to members undertaking their own projects. Through mutual respect and cooperation we have seen the member’s skill base and participation level increase significantly.
Men love to work with their hands and socialise with other men. Where better to do that than in a shed full of like-minded men, with some great equipment and people who know what they are doing and are happy to help.
Undertaking community tasks allows us to contribute to the communities that support us and provides
a great level of satisfaction to members.
